Hello everyone! For those of you who are new subscribers or followers, welcome. Thank you for taking a moment out of your busy day to think about cancer with me. I’m so honored that you are here.
Four years ago, I was in our upstairs bonus room, quarantined away from my family, binging YouTube videos about this almost forgotten surgeon named Bernard Fisher. Normally, I’m not a YouTube person. I’m a podcast person or a Daniel Silva novel person or a biography person. But not a YouTube rabbit hole kind of person. I was also in the middle of a tumultuous time in my career. I was restless and looking for something.
I’ve previously explained how I discovered my idea, my feelings on the current state of medicine, and about why I left a position (and a place) that I loved. You can also catch up on Why Him, Why Me and Why Now in my archives.
The joy of bringing all these experiences together is difficult to describe. Because it was also tinged with anger and sadness. Much like the stories that you all have been telling me in exam rooms for the past 20 years. I can’t thank you enough for standing as witnesses while I, a doctor who is supposed to have all the answers, tried something new.
I hope you will tell me what surprised you, what made you laugh, and what made you rewind and listen again. Perhaps most importantly, I want to hear how *you* fit into this story.
The production team became so invested in getting this story right that they nicknamed us #TeamFisher. On Wednesday, I invite you to join us.

If this all feels overwhelming, I get it. I recently spent 2 hours in Adobe creating what I thought was a handout but turned out to be a TikTok post, so trust me when I say I know how difficult social media can be!
It is more than enough that that you spent a few minutes listening. I am so grateful for each of you.
